December 9, 2017

The Event 5 field had a nice combination of local regulars mixing with Bar Poker Open players coming in town for the $100,000 National Championship. This was the final of three events that took place today. It started at 6 pm, eight hours after the start of the Championship and offered players who didn’t fair so well one more shot at glory.

One of those players happened to be Jennifer Payton. Payton says she got pocket aces three times in the first level of the championship but her luck ran out when she lost pocket queens to pocket queens when her opponent his a four flush. Payton said she hadn’t planned on playing Event 5 because she wanted to catch some rest for the big day tomorrow but another member of her No Limit Pub Poker Tour League convinced her it was worth a shot.

With twenty minute levels throughout, though it started almost four afters Event 4, Event 5 quickly caught up and play reached final tables almost simultaneously. While Event 4 was busy adjusting their payout structure, with it being so late at night, or early in the morning depending on how you look at it, players decided to make a deal of their own.

After Shannon Stash was eliminated in tenth place ($487), James Irizarry in ninth ($548), and MD Uddin in 8th ($730), the final seven agreed to an almost even deal. Jennifer Payton, though she took home the least amount of money was proud to take home the trophy and the title.

Payton has been a dealer for the past two years with West Palm Beach, Florida’s No Limit Pub Poker Tour. She’s also a part of the administration of the league but considers herself more of a player.

This win means a lot to Payton because she’s trying to “get more participation from our players, and get players excited about the Bar Poker Open. It’s a really big deal to bring the trophy back and show that we represented here.”
